I'm often asked how I found my style and how I got into drawing, and after spending some time thinking about it I realised it all began when I was 14 years old. I had just had two major surgeries on my eyes, to correct my sight cosmetically. However, they left me with chronic double vision – which I still suffer with now, over 40 years on. It was during my recovery period that I renewed my love for drawing, as it was a great way to pass the time.
Much like Peter Parker becoming Spiderman, I began to notice that I had developed a new style and my passion for drawing had greatly increased since my surgeries, and I was almost able to completely replicate images through black and white – which I wasn’t able to do prior to the operations.
Since then, I have worked with this style on and off throughout my career, honing this skill and to add more vibrancy to my works I am also working with colour to enhance the subjects I portray.
Overall, my specialty is highly detailed black and white pencil drawings with a splash of colour encompassing aviation and military themed artworks, and whilst I do enjoy producing this type of work, I am able to use over 40 years of experience to illustrate many other subjects including automobile, scenic and portraits.
